Our first baby (of three) was born as well as the thought of connecting preschool teachers and preschools. Until 2017 I was a stay at home dad bringing our baby to visit his mom at her preschool. Each time we would visit I would hear from the teachers and admin about the difficulties in connecting with and finding substitute preschool teachers.

Toward the end of my time being home with our first born he began attending preschool. It turned out his school was having a difficult time finding an assistant director. I offered my help in reviewing their interview processes and procedures. In a matter of two months, we were able to find and place the Assistant Director that is there to this day; a feat the school had been working for the last twelve months!

With the achievement of our first connection as well as a few other successful teacher placements it became clear there was not only a need to help schools connect with substitutes but a need to help early childhood educators and preschools find each other in general. While helping dozens of preschools in the SF Bay Area with their staffing needs, I was also listening to the predicament they were in when it came to substitute preschool teachers. It sounded like the substitute situation was just as bad if not worse than when I was a preschool teacher 20 years prior! For the next approx. three years I listened to and spoke with preschools and preschool teachers all over the SF Bay Area about their experience with substitutes and substitute agencies. All the while I was speaking with California Community Care Licensing, reading about substitute staffing models, meeting with the CEO of a large substitute staffing agency, trying to find some relief for preschools and teachers. We needed a win-win for preschools and preschool teachers because the most important party the preschoolers need the win! Finally the solution was right there in the nurturing, caring environments being created by preschools; flexibility.
